The Teachers College Inclusive Classrooms Project is supporting New York City educators and leaders to design inclusive curriculum accessible to all students. During the 2016-2017 school year, TCICP will convene seven year-long Curriculum Design Team meetings. Each team meets approximately once per month at Teachers College from 9:00AM to 2:30PM.
We are committed to the full participation of all educators. Please let us know if we can provide specific accommodations to increase your access at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Designing accessible curriculum for all learners requires sophisticated and complex teaching skills. This year, educators can join colleagues from across the city and a TCICP Staff Developer once per month in collaborative inquiry around designing, implementing, studying, and publishing units of study that are standards-based and structured around the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
The process for unit development will begin with a close look at particular students to identify the range of skills, background knowledge, and interests they represent in their classroom. Small groups of teachers on each team will co-design specific lessons for their respective classrooms; they will teach these lessons in their classrooms and then come back to the collaborative group and compare assessment documentation to analyze student learning. Finally, teachers will use assessments from lessons to design curriculum units and collect, curate, and create materials to accompany their respective units of study. Teachers will examine technology tools that support student access to grade-level content and help students have multiple ways to express knowledge, thus avoiding in class tracking. Units of study will be published online and include: student case profiles, student work samples, teacher lesson and unit plans, instructional materials, resource and reference list, and reflections and commentary by teachers.
This year, TCICP will host three teams divided by grade-level: a PreK-3 team; a team for grades 4-8; and a high school team supporting grades 9-12. If you wish to join a team, you need to commit to attending all seven meetings across the year (approximately once per month from October through May). There is no cost to attend as this offering is generously sponsored by the NYC DOE’s Division of Specialized Instruction.
Applications to Curriculum Design Teams are now closed.
All meetings take place at Teachers College from 9:00AM to 2:30PM
